Puisi - Puisi Cinta
This abstract investigates the stylistic, thematic, and philosophical trajectory of modern Indonesian love poetry (puisi-puisi cinta) from the early 20th century to the contemporary era. Far from being merely a vehicle for sentimental expression, romantic poetry in Indonesia has historically served as a mirror for shifting socio-cultural landscapes, linguistic experimentation, and existential inquiry. This study traces the aesthetic evolution of the genre, beginning with the highly structured, melancholic lyricism of the Pujangga Baru era, moving through the raw, individualistic passion of Chairil Anwar’s wartime modernism, and culminating in the minimalist, profoundly spiritual, and domestic intimacy popularized by Sapardi Djoko Damono. Utilizing textual analysis and semiotic frameworks, this paper analyzes how Indonesian poets utilize natural imagery, metaphors of distance, and localized idioms to articulate the universal complexities of desire, grief, and devotion. Furthermore, the study explores how contemporary digital platforms have democratized poetry, shifting its consumption from formal literary journals to accessible social media formats. Ultimately, this paper argues that puisi-puisi cinta remains a vital cultural anchor, showcasing the capacity of the Indonesian language to navigate the delicate boundaries between personal vulnerability, societal observation, and universal human connection.
