Pants On Fire Si Tukang Bohong
Pants On Fire: Si Tukang Bohong (The Liar) is a witty, fast-paced, and highly entertaining contemporary Indonesian teenlit novel written by Lia Indra Andriana. Published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama, the book takes its title from the famous English idiom "Liar, liar, pants on fire," delivering a humorous yet insightful look at teenage relationships, white lies, and the chaotic consequences of deception.
The Synopsis
The story revolves around a bright but overly defensive teenage girl who finds herself trapped in a massive, escalating web of her own lies. To protect her pride, avoid social embarrassment at school, or perhaps look better in front of her peers, she tells a "harmless" white lie.
However, as any seasoned storyteller knows, one lie inevitably demands another to keep the facade from crumbling. Before she knows it, her simple fabrication snowballs into a chaotic, full-scale alternative reality. She finds herself constantly on edge, juggling contradicting stories, and trying to memorize exactly what she told to whom.
The plot thickens and takes a romantic twist when she crosses paths with an observant, sharp-witted boy. Unlike everyone else who blindly swallows her stories, he seems completely immune to her charms and easily sees right through her exaggerations. Instead of immediately exposing her to the entire school, he decides to play a comedic game of cat-and-mouse—discreetly calling her out, dropping subtle hints, and forcing her into ridiculous situations where her lies are pushed to their absolute limits. As the pressure builds and the threat of social ruin looms closer, she is forced to confront why she started lying in the first place, discovering that absolute honesty might be the only way to save her friendships—and her dignity.
