The story follows Mikay Maghirang, a bright, optimistic, and hardworking young woman growing up in a loving, working-class family in the Philippines. Unbeknownst to Mikay and everyone around her, she is actually Princess Areeyah Wangchuck, the long-lost daughter and sole heir of King Anand of Yangdon (a fictional, breathtaking Himalayan kingdom heavily inspired by Bhutan). As an infant, she was smuggled out of the country to save her life after a tragic, politically motivated car crash orchestrated by a rival royal faction.
