"Sukreni Gadis Bali" (Sukreni, the Balinese Maiden) is a foundational masterpiece of modern Indonesian literature written by A.A. Pandji Tisna (Anak Agung Pandji Tisna). First published in 1936 by Balai Pustaka, this tragic novel stands out as a fearless, revolutionary critique of feudalism, moral decay, and the distortion of traditional law (adat) in 1930s Bali.

Unlike many Balai Pustaka novels of the era that focused on conflicts between modern Western education and traditional values, Pandji Tisna—who was himself Balinese royalty (the last King of Buleleng)—turned his lens inward to expose the dark underbelly of his own society.
