Cinta di Dalam Gelas
The story is set in the small, tight-knit village of Tanjong Pandan on the island of Belitong. In this community, the local coffee shops (warung kopi) are the absolute center of social, political, and cultural life. However, these spaces are strictly male-dominated domains; women are traditionally excluded from sitting, debating, or participating in the vibrant coffee shop culture.
The narrative follows the return of Ikal (Hirata's recurring alter-ego), who finds himself swept up in an extraordinary, unprecedented social revolution led by a fiercely resilient local woman named Maryamah (popularly known as Maryamah Karpov).
Maryamah has suffered immensely at the hands of her cruel, arrogant ex-husband, Mat Dawam. Mat Dawam is a notorious local bully and the undisputed champion of the village’s most prestigious event: the annual Warkop Chess Tournament. In Belitong, winning this tournament brings ultimate social status, masculinity, and power. Mat Dawam used this status to humiliate Maryamah, eventually divorcing her and leaving her in poverty.
Instead of sinking into despair, Maryamah decides to fight back in the most shocking way possible: she registers to compete in the all-male chess tournament to challenge her ex-husband.
