Grimm's Fairy Tales
Originally collected and published by the German academic brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Grimm's Fairy Tales is one of the most famous and influential anthologies of folklore in human history.
Contrary to popular modern belief, the brothers did not invent these stories; instead, they traveled across German lands recording oral folklore told by peasants, storytelling nannies, and middle-class informants. Over successive editions (spanning from 1812 to 1857), the tales were heavily edited to tone down dark elements, emphasize Christian morals, and make them more suitable for children—though many retained their haunting, cautionary edge.
