Unholy Night
The story completely reimagines the Three Wise Men (the Magi) who visit the infant Jesus. In popular tradition, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar are depicted as pious, gentle kings traveling peacefully on camels following a star.
In Grahame-Smith's version, they are anything but holy.
The trio are actually a notorious group of ruthless, heavily armed bandits, thieves, and murderers who have escaped from a brutal Judean prison. Led by Balthazar, a cynical, battle-hardened criminal with a tragic past and a long list of sins, the men are simply looking for a place to hide from the ruthless forces of King Herod.
