The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
The story is told mainly through Mr. Gabriel John Utterson, a lawyer and friend of the respected Dr. Henry Jekyll.
Utterson becomes troubled when his client Jekyll changes his will, leaving everything to a sinister, violent man named Edward Hyde. Utterson has heard disturbing stories about Hyde: he trampled a little girl in the street and paid off her family with a check signed by Dr. Jekyll. Hyde is described as deformed, dwarfish, and giving everyone who meets him a feeling of utter repulsion.
Utterson confronts Jekyll, who asks him not to worry about Hyde. “I wish to see him no more,” Jekyll says. “I have a very great interest in poor Hyde. I wish to do my duty to him.”
