The Swiss Family Robinson
The story follows a Swiss family—a father, mother, and their four sons (Fritz, Ernest, Jack, and Franz)—who are shipwrecked on an uninhabited island in the East Indies while en route to Australia.
Unlike many survival stories that focus on bleak despair, this novel is a celebration of human capability. The family works together to transform their island into a thriving home. They build an elaborate treehouse, tame wild animals, utilize the island's natural resources for food and clothing, and explore the geography of their new world. Over the course of several years, they learn to rely on each other’s unique strengths, eventually deciding to stay on the island even when a potential rescue mission presents itself.
