The Eagle of the Ninth
The story follows Marcus Flavius Aquila, a young Roman officer stationed in Britain. His father’s legion, the Ninth Hispana, had marched north years earlier to quell a tribal uprising and vanished without a trace, taking the legion's golden eagle standard with it.
After Marcus is severely wounded in battle and medically discharged, he is haunted by the mystery of his father’s "lost" legion and the stain on his family's honor. Driven by a quest for truth, he ventures into the dangerous, mist-shrouded lands beyond Hadrian’s Wall. Disguised as a Greek oculist (healer) and accompanied by Esca, a loyal former slave and native British tribesman, Marcus embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the truth and recover the lost eagle.
