Around The World in Eighty Days & Five Weeks in a Ballon
The story follows Phileas Fogg, a wealthy, impeccably precise, and unflappably calm English gentleman living in London. One evening at his gentlemen’s club, a debate arises over a newly opened railway section in India, leading to a bold assertion: it is now possible to travel around the entire world in just eighty days. Fogg wagers half his fortune (£20,000) that he can pull it off, and immediately sets out that very night, accompanied by his newly hired, quick-witted French valet, Jean Passepartout.
What follows is a breathless, global race against the clock. Unbeknownst to Fogg, his sudden departure coincides with a massive Bank of England robbery, leading a suspicious Scotland Yard detective named Fix to doggedly pursue them across continents, convinced Fogg is the thief.
As they travel by steamship, train, elephant, and even a wind-propelled sledge across India, Hong Kong, Japan, and the American West, Fogg and Passepartout encounter countless perils, missed connections, and dramatic rescues—most notably saving a young Indian woman named Aouda from ritual sacrifice. Every second counts, culminating in a nail-biting finish back in London where the absolute limits of time, loyalty, and calculation are tested.
