Antony and Cleopatra
Antony and Cleopatra is a tragedy by English playwright William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1606–1607 and first published in the 1623 First Folio. Drawing from Plutarch’s Lives, the play spans the tumultuous Roman triumvirate period and depicts the passionate, politically ruinous love affair between the Roman general Mark Antony and Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, contrasted against the cold, calculating political ambition of Octavius Caesar.
