Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is a classic novella by Polish-English author Joseph Conrad, published in 1899 (serialized in Blackwood's Magazine in 1899 and published as a book in 1902). Based in part on Conrad’s own experiences steaming up the Congo River in 1890, the novel is a searing critique of the brutality of European imperialism, exploring themes of colonial exploitation, moral ambiguity, sanity, and the deep, primordial darkness lurking within the human psyche.
