The Murdetd in The Rue Morgue
The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a short story by American author Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1841 in Graham's Magazine. Widely recognized as the first modern detective story, it introduced the eccentric amateur detective C. Auguste Dupin and established many tropes of the detective fiction genre, including the brilliant sleuth, the less intelligent narrator companion, the locked-room mystery, and the solving of a crime through pure logical deduction.
