The Taming of the Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew is a comedic play written by William Shakespeare, believed to have been penned between 1590 and 1592. One of Shakespeare's earliest comedies, it is famously framed as a "play within a play" (an induction where a drunken tinker named Christopher Sly is tricked into believing he is a lord watching a performance). The main plot centers on the volatile courtship between Katherina (the "shrew")—a sharp-tongued, fiercely independent, and hot-tempered woman—and Petruchio, a fortune-seeking gentleman who sets out to "tame" her into an obedient Elizabethan wife.
