Fanny Hill
Fanny Hill: or, the Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure is an 1848 (originally published in two parts between 1748 and 1749) epistolary novel by English author John Cleland. Written while Cleland was imprisoned for debt, it is historically famous as one of the first English-language erotic novels and arguably the most notorious obscenity trial target in literary history.
Despite its scandalous reputation and centuries of being banned, censored, or prosecuted across the globe, modern literary critics also view it as an important, clever parody of 18th-century sentimental fiction and a fascinating glimpse into the social underworld of Georgian London.
