The Prince
The Prince (Italian: Il Principe) is a 16th-century political treatise written by the Italian diplomat, philosopher, and historian Niccolò Machiavelli. Written in 1513 (though published posthumously in 1532), it is widely regarded as one of the most influential and controversial works of political philosophy ever created.
Instead of offering an idealistic blueprint of how rulers should behave based on moral or religious virtue, Machiavelli presented a brutally pragmatic, realist guide on how power is actually attained, maintained, and lost in the real world.
