The Secret Garden

---

The story begins in British India, where Mary Lennox is a spoiled, disagreeable, and neglected ten-year-old girl born to wealthy, distant parents who pay little attention to her. When a sudden outbreak of cholera claims the lives of both her parents and all the household servants, Mary is left completely alone.

She is sent away from India to live in England with her enigmatic and grieving uncle, Archibald Craven, at Misselthwaite Manor, a gloomy, sprawling estate situated on the isolated Yorkshire moors.
