Romeo and Juliet
The play is set in the sun-drenched Italian city of Verona, which is plagued by a bitter, bloody, generational feud between two noble families: the Capulets and the Montagues.
Romeo, a young Montague, is initially lovesick over a woman named Rosaline who does not return his affections. To cheer him up, his cousin Benvolio and his flamboyant friend Mercutio convince Romeo to sneak into a grand masked ball hosted by their bitter rivals, the Capulets.
At the party, Romeo immediately forgets Rosaline the moment he lays eyes on Juliet, the thirteen-year-old daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet. Juliet is equally struck, and the two share an instant, passionate connection. After the party, Romeo lingers behind, slips into the Capulet orchard, and overhears Juliet standing on her balcony, professing her deep love for him while lamenting their families' feud ("O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?"). Romeo reveals himself, and the two hastily vow to marry.
